1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Commitment means sacrifice. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could dilute that? Wouldn’t it be nice if we could say that commitment actually meant that we didn’t have to do anything different than we already do?

Unfortunately, life doesn’t work that way. If we commit to picking up our neighbor at the airport during rush hour, we need to deal with the traffic to fulfill that commitment. If we commit to going to our six-year-old niece’s ballet recital, then we need to be there, no matter how difficult it might be.

The Bible teaches us that we need to be committed to God and to stand by that commitment. When we commit ourselves to doing the work of our God, He will work through us to give us the ability to persevere and succeed. But He waits for us to first decide that we are going to commit. If we don’t act, He doesn’t act.

There are so many stories of people who have done something for God but then slipped away. They had good intentions. They never thought that it was going to be a short-term commitment. But they didn’t see the big picture. They only saw the hardship and the difficulties. They only saw the sacrifice and the pain. But they didn’t see the eternal value and the reward. Revelation 2:10 says, “Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer…Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life.”

Let’s work so that we can wear the crown of life. Let’s not give up. Let’s overcome Satan and the world. Let’s become fully committed to Him.
